The Hidden Valley Womans Rape Escape Program was created for the sole purpose of teaching women realistic and practical self defense techniques that anyone can perform reguardless of size, strength or atheletic ability.
HERE IS A BRIEF DISCRIPTION OF WHAT WE TEACH
Awareness and Avoidance
Often, we do not identify potentially dangerous situations until it is too late. The Common Sense Self Defense curriculum includes elements of basic safety that can help a woman recognize possible danger before it escalates into physical attack.
Escape
The techniques are designed to help any woman escape from her attacker, whether she is on her feet or on the ground. The techniques of The Common Sense Self Defense are not based on strikes and kicks as are most other self-defense courses for women. Strikes and kicks offer very little chance for success against an assailant who is most likely going to be bigger, stronger and capable of hitting back. Furthermore, they are useless on the ground which is where the attacker will usually carry out his assault. The escape moves of The Common Sense Self Defense are based on leverage and technique and do not require strength, speed or coordination. They can therefore be used effectively by women of any age, size, strength or level of physical fitness.
Program Objective
The worst part of an attack situation is the feeling of total helplessness the victim experiences. The Common Sense Self Defense not only empowers a woman physically with simple, effective techniques for an escape, but also psychologically and emotionally by enabling her to maintain the presence of mind necessary to recognize or create an opportunity to get away.
The Instructor
Mike Hermosillo, is a leading self-defense expert in the state of Utah, is the creator of The Common Sense Self Defense. Mike developed the The Common Sense Self Defense alternative to address a woman's worst nightmare — RAPE. Mike also teaches at local schools, civic groups, churches, community centers and works with visually impared students.

At the end of each class, students are given the opportunity to apply those learned skills against coach Mike. The students learn how to overcome the panic response, practice strategy and perform the techniques in a simulated reality situation.
Although there are no guarantees that this or any self-defense system will ensure that a woman, if assaulted, will be able to succeed against her attacker, The Common Sense Self Defense is based techniques which have been proven effective for over 2000 years against Larger, Stroner, and Armed assailants.
